Child Care Provider Professional Development

Did you know that children score better on intelligence and social competence tests when their caregivers have higher levels of child-related training and formal education? Do you want to stay apprised of developments in early childhood education, while fulfilling your child care license maintenance training requirements?

As part of its education and school readiness focus, United Way of Weld County provides child care provider professional development opportunities. All licensed child care providers must complete a specified number of hours of professional development each year in order to maintain licensure. Local community colleges help child care providers meet these requirements and provide the opportunity for participants to earn college credits; this program compliments these efforts by offering child care provider training for free or low cost and at evening classes.

Child Care Provider Professional Development each year hosts over 15 hours of child care provider professional development trainings. Most include speakers from Colorado higher education, presenting early childhood care research findings and best practices.

Trainings are available to all child care providers, focusing primarily on Weld County. Regular classes are held on weekday evenings and weekends. Early each year United Way hosts the Love to Learn Conference, a single event during which you can earn up to seven hours of professional development.

Participant evaluations are required following all trainings. The results are collated and sent to the presenter and reviewed by United Way of Weld County staff and volunteers.

Goal 1: Providers will be able to take the trainings needed to maintain their annual hours required for licensure.
Goal 2: Home child care providers will be able to access evening and online training courses.
Goal 3: Providers will be able to access classes without cost being a prohibitive factor.
