2-1-1 Information & Referral

crhome basicneeds

Every week, month and throughout each year, 2-1-1 receives numerous calls from clients seeking various forms of financial, legal, health, medical, and emotional support assistance.

Veronica, a single mother of five children, called into the United Way of Weld County 2-1-1 Informational and Referral Program asking for any type of assistance. Her husband had left the household and was the main provider for their children. Veronica was left to seek resources to help in her desperate situation. A 2-1-1 call specialist directed Veronica to Weld County Department of Human Services (DHS) to apply for TANF, WIC, FOOD ASSISTANCE, and to Social Services to seek paid benefits from her husband’s employment.

Through 2-1-1’s assessment process, it was learned that Veronica did not have all her legal documentation because her husband had taken it. Legal documentation in the form of birth certificates is attainable through the financial and legal assistance through the following existing agency networks - United Way 2-1-1 (to connect clients to resource), R.I.S.E. (to pay for) and Weld County Health Department (complete legal/paper process). Veronica was able to get all five birth certificates processed and picked up to begin her process with DHS.

Veronica was very appreciative with the time and quality of care the 2-1-1 call specialist took with her presenting needs and the outcome of given resources.

The nation’s first 2-1-1 service was created in 1997 in metropolitan Atlanta.
